Zion Co-sponsors Community Health Fair
Zion is co-sponsoring a Pewaukee community health fair along with Pro-Health and other area churches. The fair is November 3rd at Galalee Lutheran Church. Various health screenings, flu-shots and home safety information will be available. ( Health Fair Brochure)
Presbytery Backs Growth Strategy
Zion church recieved a vote of confidence from the Presbytery of Milwaukee when they approved a "Session Partnership" grant to support the five year growth strategy developed by Zion members. The five year plan was a result of discernment and study over the past year and a half. The growth plan calls for agressive hiring of a full time minister, efforts to increase weekly worship attendance to 100-120, increased community presence, and more focus on spiritual growth and christian education. The grant also supports an engineering analysis to assess the viability of the current structure and options for expansion and creating usable meeting and classroom space. ( Read the Grant Proposal )
Cereal Drive Feeds Hungry in Waukesha
We delivered 322 boxes of cereal to the Food
Pantry on 2/28/06 and the staff there loved it and
thanked us profusely. Cereal is still coming in
and it will be added to the total. The Waukesha food pantry distributes 500 boxes of cereal each week. Our goal was to collect 1 weeks worth of cereal. Karen Tredwill, executive
director of the Food Pantry gave us this idea and told us the
month of February was a slow month for donations but also
didn't think we'd have time to pull something together so
..... Great job Zion!!
Zion Goes Independent
On April 1st Zion Presbyterian, along with the other 3 churches of the Kettle Moraine Parish, will begin operating as independent churches. After 37 years of sharing Pastors and administrative support the churches unanimously decided that being independent would allow each to better serve their members and communities. The parish will officially dissolve on March 31st. Denny Maher will continue to serve Zion as a temporary part-time pastor. Zion will begin a search for a full time Pastor beginning April 1st.
Zion Unveils New Sign
On March 21st, Zion Presbyterian unveiled a new sign in front of the church. The new 4 x 8 foot sign is perpendicular to Silvernail road and clearly identifies Zion to passers by. The sign also helps mark the entrance to the church parking lot. Designed by a local Pewaukee artist, the sign incorporates a number of interesting design elements including a sea shell (which is the church's shape and also a Christian symbol for "rebirth",) stained glass and the Presbyterian (PCUSA) logo.
